I have served as a pastor in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod for a few years. First, I served three congregations in the Indiana District (1978-1996); then I served one congregation for 11 years in the Mid-South District (1996-2007); most recently, I am serving a congregation in Ringwood NJ (2007-present).
My birthplace was St. Louis MO (which begins to explain my connection to the St. Louis Cardinals) and I also met my wife, Barb, during my years at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis (we’ve been married since 1976). The Lord blessed us with two children who have died and joined their Lord in heaven (Matthew, born 1979 and died in 1985; Leann, born in 1984 and died in 1989).
Besides my work in the church, those things that attract my attention are the St. Louis Cardinals, the St. Louis Blues (hockey), and NASCAR. To get a little balance in my life, I am a dedicated reader and enjoy doing things on the computer–hence this blog. Traveling is something I hope to do more of in the years to come.
Finally, I care a great deal about people and I see a great need to let them know that Jesus loves them and will provide for them in any and all situations. This I have learned from personal experience. The Lord never fails!
Dear Pastor Herring,
Just a note to let you know that Bethel in Ft. Smith, AR will be looking for a new pastor. Pastor Johnson left Bethel after 3 years.
Hope you and Barb are doing well.
Janice Brower
P.S. I have been a member of Bethel for 21 years now
