Caretakers of God’s Gifts
The very first thing we read in the Bible is, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). God was there “in the beginning” and always will be. He is the One Who made everything that was ever made (John 1:3), and, since He made everything, it all belongs to Him. Without God, there would be nothing, so everything we have comes from God.
Did you ever really think about that? We think about the things we “own.” We think about “our” talents and abilities. We think about “our” accomplishments. These are, however, all gifts God gives us. When we begin to comprehend this truth, we can learn several things: We can learn gratitude – thanks to God for His abundant generosity. We can learn humility – what are we without God anyway? We can learn to share. After all, that’s why God gave us these gifts. We can learn to value and care for these gifts – especially since they are not our own but just on loan to us.
Prayer: Lord, help me to understand that You are the source and owner of all good things. Grant me faith and wisdom to use Your gifts in ways that give You honor. Amen.
Blessings on your stewardship journey!
