Don’t worry, I’m not talking about the end of the world, although if you live in Ringwood you might think this topic almost covers it.
During the past several years (I have lost track as to how many) work has been going on in the replacing of sewer lines under Ringwood Avenue in Ringwood and Wanaque. That work itself was not so bad but what made this project more than tedious was the replacement of curbs and sidewalks along about 3 to 4 mile stretch of roadway. The first contractor quit and the second had crews that I was convinced looked just like Moe, Larry, and Curly.
The street pavement has been worse than abysmal; in fact, anyone who hoped to speed through the area simply could not or else risk significant damage to their vehicle. The potholes were that deep!
But starting today the final milling of the pavement and paving was to begin. Dire warnings were posted for the past week for all to stay away and take another route since traffic would not be able to move through the area. As if on cue, last Friday a major house fire took place at the bottom of Skyline Drive in Oakland which blocked access to Ringwood from the south. If the paving project had been going on with that fire, there would have been no way to get into Ringwood from any points south and since most people work in locations south of town, that would have been a major problem.
The promise is the paving will be done by the end of the week but I’m not holding my breath. In fact, I’m not even going to travel on Ringwood Ave. until I know it’s finished–maybe by Christmas of 2014. But at least it will be smooth.
