With Amazon announcing Sunday delivery in New York and Los Angeles (which you can read about here), the interesting possibility arises that business opportunity will drive the Postal Service into a completely new model that may even be financially sustainable.
In other words, if the Post Office would allow itself to be shaped by the needs of its customers rather than by the whims of the government, it might have a chance to survive. What a novel idea!
Yesterday, I had a package delivered by the Post Office from Amazon even though it was a federal holiday. The guaranteed delivery date was Tuesday and it showed up on Monday. Thank you Amazon Prime! Thank you United States Post Office! This could work well.
