Mid-Week Stewardship Thought

Trusting in God’s Goodness

How do we react when good times turn to bad? When it seems our blessings turn to curses? Do we complain and grumble and question God’s love and care? The Israelites, in the Old Testament, complained and mistrusted God, but they did something else, too; they “cried to the Lord, the God of [their] fathers.” And He heard their crying and was concerned about their suffering and came to rescue them (Deuteronomy 26:7-8).

Like the Israelites, we are sojourners in a foreign land (1 Peter 2:11). We are overwhelmed by the devil, the world, and our own flesh. We are powerless in the grip of sin. What can we do but cry out to the Lord? Just as God brought the Israelites out of bondage in Egypt through the waters of the Red Sea to new life in the Promised Land, so He brings us out of bondage to sin through the waters of Baptism to new life that lasts through eternity in Heaven.

Prayer: Lord, I cry out to You for mercy and ask You to deliver me from my sin. Amen.

Blessings on your journey as a Steward!
