I came across this interesting article about a completely different design for the baseball bat. The Axe Bat sounds intriguing and promising as a way to give batters a fairer opportunity when they face pitchers. With the shrinking strike zone and pitchers throwing harder than ever today, the offensive side of the game of baseball has taken a hit (pun intended).
How will this translate into a bat usable on the Major League level? That remains to be seen but all of us who have flailed unsuccessfully at a thrown pitch know the pain of striking out.
At least for the Cardinals (who seemingly can’t hit their way out of a paper sack) this should be something that is considered … and soon.
