The United States of America is infatuated with football and the height of its devotion will be celebrated tomorrow with Superbowl XLIX.
Not everyone will be watching–please read this article from the current issue of the Rotarian Magazine.
There is much truth in what the author says. My disenchantment with football did not begin with a traumatic experience but with the harsh realities of the game being displayed when the owner of the St. Louis football Cardinals decided he could make more money by moving the team to Arizona. St. Louis is once again dealing with an owner eyeing another location, Los Angeles, because he can make more money.
I’ve already viewed most of the commercials for tomorrow’s game. I especially like the BMW spot with Katie Couric and Bryant Gumbel and the Budweiser puppy commercial made my wife say, “Awwww.”
So the question is, do I watch the game or not? The answer is, “Maybe.” I might watch part of it but probably not the entire thing.
My life is quite full the way it is and football is not a part of it. Maybe it’s time to not watch the game at all.
Life will still go on quite nicely, thank you.
