Trusting and Giving
Giving is a matter of trust—both our trusting God to provide His resources, and His trusting us to use those resources wisely and generously, for His honor, for those in need, and for the building of His kingdom. In the Old Testament, this trust was clearly evident when the Israelites gave the first portion of their crops as their offering, expecting that God will give them a good harvest. They gave before they had harvested their entire crop. As New Covenant Christians, we show our trust is in Jesus as we give generously. However, if we are hoarding our money, giving only grudgingly, if at all, we are putting our trust in ourselves, storing up “treasures on earth” (Matthew 6:19). Placing our trust in the Lord, we hold onto our possessions loosely, and we cheerfully share the resources God has entrusted to us. Trusting in Him, God equips us and enables us to serve Him through our giving.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, help me to see that You are the source and owner of all that You have entrusted to me. Grant me a trusting heart so I will willingly and cheerfully return a portion of my blessings to You. In Jesus’ precious name I pray. Amen.
Blessings on your journey as a steward!
