Mid-Week Stewardship Thought

Changing Selfishness into Generosity

By God’s grace, appropriated to us through Word and Sacrament, we are transformed in our thinking.  As new people in Christ, we seek ways to honor and worship Him through our financial offerings.  Through the work of the Holy Spirit, our selfish hearts are transformed into hearts filled with a desire to share God’s blessings to us with others.

Through faith, God moves people to give even when they have little.  In Genesis 8 and 9, we read of Noah’s sacrifice.  Descending from the ark, Noah didn’t have much.  Yet, as a first act of worship for the protection he and his family received, Noah built an altar and sacrificed some of the clean animals as burnt offerings.  Noah made the sacrifice in thanksgiving to God for what He’d already done and in faith that God would continue to provide for him.  The same faith and trust that empowered Noah enables us to give generously, even sacrificially.  Because of God’s grace given freely to us, we don’t have to continue living as selfish people.  We can learn to view our money as a means to provide for our own needs as well as the needs of others—both physical and spiritual.  God will enable us to become generous people.

Prayer: Dear God, Father Almighty, thank You for Your grace that makes my giving possible.  Grant me a giving and generous heart.  In Jesus’ precious name I pray.  Amen.

Blessings on your Journey as a Steward!
